networking is pretty damn nifty

Wednesday, August 28th, 2002

Finally got things running smoothly. A little tip for anyone who wants to network a Win XP and Win 98 system together - you MUST create user accounts with passwords (which I never do for my home systems) on both XP and 98, and if they are different, you have to have them on both systems. Otherwise the XP system will never appear on the 98 system. Not very well documented, but I finally found something online…

Now I’ve got the PowerBook hooked in and I’m tapping into the cable modem to download much needed software updates that never seemed worth it before.

now that I have everything fixed and / or purchased that I needed, I’m dealing with the aftermath - setup. wrestling with the home network, which simply doesn’t want to work, learning how to use and setup the axis network cam, and generally getting pissed off every five minutes. you’d think that it being just 1’s and 0’s this shouldn’t be that damn hard. no time for exercise, no time for blogs, no time for wendy. no time at all.

spending, spending, spending

If the stock market goes up tomorrow, you have Wendy and I to thank. I feel like we’ve been singlehandedly doing our best to prop up the economy the past week… new car, fixed computer (finally… and it’s QUIET!), new pots and pans, new bedding (yes, sorted that out as well), new towels, and a few other assorted techno bits and bobs as well. And we’ve got the VISA bill to prove it. Sigh. Just when I was crawling my way out of debt.

shebop, webop they bop

For no reason whatsoever, I have had She Bop running my in head for the last hour. Didn’t hear it. Didn’t see any mention of Cindy Lauper, yet “i don’t…even… understannnnnnnnd” has been playing in my mind non-stop. Until a neighbor pulled up blaring the Cult’s “Edie” and then continued singing it out loud as he walked to his apartment. So now I have a very poorly tuned a capaella version of “Edie” torturing my brain.

full of gunk

May not have been a great idea to take a shower and run down to the beach last night with my hair still wet. Sore throat and stuffy nose hit me around 1am last night, which led to a horribly long evening with little sleep. Feeling slightly better this morning and now well medicated so perhaps I shall recover quickly.

I don’t know if there’s a word for the experience, but there should be - speaking of that, whatever happened to sniglets? - the worst thing in the world is that time stretch that happens when you’re sick and can’t sleep. You roll over, look at the clock, and it’s 4:15 or whatever… roll back over, and you just lay there, maybe drifting into sleep, generally not, and it feels like at least 2 hours have passed… and you roll back over, and it’s only fucking 4:18. That happened to me about 8 times last night.
