day 3… shaky start

Wednesday, November 20th, 2002

Woke up late. Maid at door. (before anyone thinks i’m ridiculously posh, we only have one come once a week and it’s pretty damn cheap). That means it’s too late to make coffee since she does the kitchen first. Already deprived of one drug, now being deprived on another. Difficult morning.
Coughing up tons of crap. Need to get teeth cleaned.

patch day 2

And all is seemingly well. Really noticing how much time I waste every day… obviously through the now no-more smoke breaks, but in general. And how when I do choose something to do it’s usually not what I’d actually want to be doing, or what I should be doing… just the easiest or most recent or most “squeaky-wheel” thing in front of me. Time to set some priorities and start doing things differently, I think.

Well, why the hell not. Stopped smoking, lost a ton of weight, changed my eating habits completely, been following a serious exercise routine… might as well see this whole self-improvement thing through all the way.

patch day 1

Hmm… curiously tingly, this patch thing. No physical anxiety thus far… of course, I’ve only been awake for 4 hours. Not too shabby on the mental front either, although I have noticed I no longer have anything to reward myself with. Made doing exercise or ponderous client phone calls much easier when I had a gift to give myself upon successful completion.

Being badgered by a friend to drive out to the desert tonight and watch the “once in a lifetime” meteor shower event. I’m sure it will be quite cool but the idea of a 3 hour drive (each way) and being out until 4am in the middle of nowhere isn’t really appealing to this city boy at the moment.
“But it’ll be fun.”
“For five minutes. What about the other 6 hours I’ll be stuck with you freaks?”

Someone invent a transporter, please. Life is the destination. Fuck the journey. It’s nothing but complaints, bad music, farts in the cushions and cheetos.

ponderous potter review

The Chamber of Secrets must be where they locked up the editor. You could have left half the movie on the cutting room floor, and this would have been great. Cut every single lingering close up on one of the kids’ faces, and all of the ponderious overexplanations and you’ll have shaved a good hour off the movie. When you go out of your way to setup a major plot device early in the film - in a fairly clunky way, I might add, so even the 8 year old next to you is saying “hmm… wonder why they told us that?”, then you bring that plot device in near the end of the movie, do we really need a 5 minute scene re-explaining the plot device? Perhaps so since 4 hours and 50 minutes have passed since the first introduction :)

I’m being pretty harsh. It wasn’t that bad. The first one was considerably better, but the first hour and change was actually pretty good. And I could have watched Branaugh all night. He made this one..

damn muggles

The day is over, the project is launched and (sort of) over… and I’m off to see a midnight screening of the new Harry Potter movie. Not a huge fan, but the first one was enjoyable and I need something to wipe the nasty 8 mile flavor off my tongue.

Time for some updates to my seeing / reading / watching crap as well. I’ll do as many as I can while Wendy’s getting into her official harry potter outfit.
