a most lame day

Tuesday, February 17th, 2004

Spent the majority of the day troubleshooting and working on stupid projects. Dave helped me out with a director thing, although in the end we had to junk it… and then Flash. Man, why oh why do they make it so difficult? Had to work on a site and get it up to Flash 7 format, and a bunch of cool weird things I’ve got don’t work in Flash 7 for some strange reason. Solved one, still haven’t solved the other. Stupid program.

Dinner last night was a blast… ended up drinking beer out of brown paper bags on the beach. Nice. Today all around blew. Tomorrow will hopefully be better.

another day

must finish working on mixes today. if nothing else, just to get it out of the way and move on to new things.

avoided valentines dinner… mutually agreed pizza rather than deal with the hordes at restaurants. definately a wise decision, as traffic getting out to the movie theater was ridiculous. went and saw return on the king again last night with greg, anna, adrienne and john. it was interesting watching it with people that aren’t even slightly interested in the phenomena - made you realize how cringe worthy a lot of it is unless you’ve already bought into it all hook, line and sinker like we have. a great movie, damn it. did the farmers market this morning with miyoko, skeely and angie… some other folks were supposed to join but didn’t make it.

off to work.

vday

Saturday, February 14th, 2004

The week dragged by as we finished up a major project, just in time to start working on two more, both of which are due at the end of this coming week. pain in the ass. Thursday night we did a one-day early suck the box night with a few special guests… then on Friday, we picked up John from the airport, grabbed some good grub and took his ass home… good to have him back in town.

Today’s vday… nothing special planned. We’ve been together long enough that we don’t feel the need to try and make a huge deal out of it and brave the crowds for nice restaurants or anything. Got Wenny a lovely bizarre polaroid camera and some film, and a nice flower arrangements from her favorite florist… and I got a great new Brian Greene book “The Fabric of the Cosmos : Space, Time, and the Texture of Reality” (didn’t even know he had a new one, she actually suprised me!) and some snazzy new duds.

Probably do a bit of work today, hit the gym… then order a pizza for dinner and go see Return of the King again with some friends. Sounds like a great day to me.

my favorite 10 songs in the world (right now)

Friday, February 13th, 2004

in a weird mood tonight. two boxes, some strange long phone calls with very dear people… just rambling and running through the ipod. i’m going to limit myself to one song by any particular artist, thus ensuring that not all 10 are the cure. a few people we work with made it onto the list, which is strange… i guess you get used to listening to things you normally wouldn’t and recognize the amazing things that are there.

1) the cure (what a shock)… off the best album ever, disintegration, “untitled”. should really be “a forest” but at the moment it’s not. what can i say?

2) depeche mode … off of ultra even though alan wilder had already left, and he was the most gifted… “useless”. i love it.

3) curve, off of cuckoo… “unreadable communication”. if ever there was a song i wish i had written…

4) jesus and mary chain… off of stoned and dethroned… “save me”. wow.

5) underworld off of dubnobasswithmyheadman, we’ve got “dirty epic” which is right up there with “a forest” as my favorite song of all time, even though “a forest” didn’t make this particular drunken list

6) goo goo dolls off of dizzy up the girl “acoustic #3″ what can i say? listen to it. amazing.

7) dandy warhols off of …come down, “be-in”… i was an early believer in these guys, and this is my fav.

8) radiohead, off of ok computer, the second best full album ever.. “no suprises”.. bruises that won’t heal

9) alanis morissette off of the city of angels soundtrack, “uninvited”… another wow song. this one just grabs me, every time i hear it.

10) the verve off of urban hyms, “bittersweet symphony”…

god. i’m going to be revising this for years. nowhere near enough of the brilliant electronica… or the amazing songs by love and rockets… the smiths.. nine inch nails? jesus, how did i leave them off? and world party? ship of fools? damn, how could i leave that off… the pixies.. the list goes on and on. oh well. that’s why the “right now” was appended.
