the first debate

Thursday, September 30th, 2004

Went over to Dehais’ to catch the first debate with the Skeelster.. an enjoyable evening. The miller flowed like wine.

Anyways, I could rip Dubya Dubya III to shreds but what difference would it make? The things that I and other like minded folk find so abhorrent about the man are the same things the others in this country like. He’s a moron (read: he’s just like me! he’s an everyman!). He refuses to pay any mind to the rest of the world or be a global politician (we’re number one! we’re number one! fuck france!). It just doesn’t matter. Kerry will win if he can keep this pace up for all three debates. If he can mobilize the democratic base and get enough of the moderate republicans. End of story.

My take? He impressed me. For once, I got past “anyone but Bush” and actually thought he’d be alright as a president. He’s smart. He’s well versed. He knows what’s going on and seems commited to being a real leader of the free WORLD rather than just this one part of it. Good for you. Keep it up, asswipe, or else we’re really, really fucked.

What I really can’t understand is how ANYONE can be undecided at this point. There are really, really marked differences. I just don’t get it. How can you possibly not know how you’re going to vote? I mean, come on. I really do get why some people are going to vote for Bush, and I don’t hate them for it. They’re scared. This whole administration has pretty much made their platform “vote for us or some muslim will kill you”. Ok, I understand why you might buy into that and be convinced. fine.

But how can you not know? How can you sit there and think, well, jeez, I just don’t know?

Lameasses. Shit or get off the pot. For fuck’s sake. Believe in the right to choose? Vote Kerry or else it’s gone. Or vice versa. Think the rest of the world is important? Vote Kerry, or if not, then vote Bush. This is pretty fucking black or white, people.

Well… the final book in Stephen King’s Dark Tower series has come out and I devoured it in about two days. I hate, hate, hate reaching the end of a series, particularly this one. I’m filled with a sense of accomplishment and joy and loss and sadness. I miss the world and the characters already. If anyone out there has even vaugely similar tastes and hasn’t read it, you should do so. I’m not the biggest fan of sai King’s horror work… but I loved the Talisman and works like that… and this truly was a work of genious. Visit here to get a taste… and let the long journey begin. And if you are a fan of his other work - or even passingly familiar with it - you’ll enjoy the connections.

In other news… I’ve burned into the J’s, finishing off Jesus Jones this morning… I’ve got one airport express up and working and streaming music into the den. At some point I’ll be picking up another and a good set of speakers for the bedroom.

Also, just checked out the latest version of Ableton Live last night and I think it’s got me a bit inspired to start working on some of my own music again. The Gunslinger Suite, perhaps.

feelin the wireless love

Tuesday, September 21st, 2004

picked up a monster drive, and i’ve burned through front 242. also picked up an airport express the other day, and a linksys wiresless router for my pc today. Hooked it all up… i’m able to wander around the house with the powerbook and surf, and i’ve created a shared music library on the pc with everything burned thus far and can access it from all the computers in the house. nice.

having a little problem getting the love connection going between the linksys and the airport express… once i get through that, it’s playing the tunes in the living room wirelessly, and bye bye cds! one problem though - looks like you can’t send to multiple airport expresses simultaneously… can you? it’d be sweet to have the same stream playing in a bunch of different rooms. anyone know?

sick

Monday, September 20th, 2004

Looks like I’ve got my annual illness. Tired, sore throat, joints ache. Saw my parents for lunch yesterday and they had been sick so that must be where i picked it up from.

Then again, it’s been a few days in a row of self-indulgent late nights with lots of booze. Green Day on Thursday, poker at John’s friday night, a party over at the swing house with rob and miyoko on saturday, and then the goos played the et/people post-emmys party which had a very nice open bar. no big celeb sightings… diana ross, niles crane, tom green and a few others wandering around…. oh, and grasshopper, that was cool.

anyways, in pain today, but as the day has progressed, i’ve determined it’s definately more than a hangover.

cd ripping update - just finished elastica and the 2nd full box. my hard drive on my computer is almost full so it’s time to go buy a monster drive.
