throw the cds down the well

Thursday, September 16th, 2004

Well, let’s see… what’s been happening? Off to see Green Day tonight… should be fun. My iPod busted - again. Went off to apple today… glad i paid up for that service contract.

I’ve burned my way up to Depeche Mode, finally. When this is done, I’ll have gone through my three biggest bands, in terms of numbers of CDs I have for each - singles, bootlegs, etc - the cure, curve and depeche mode. All of them fit in one box, with only a few things inbetween.

Still haven’t sorted out what I’m going to do in the house yet. Obviously, I’ve got to go get an airport extreme to hook up to wendy’s Mac… I’ll be able to get online with the mac laptop anywhere, then, which would be nice. Then get a compatible wireless thingamabob for my PCs, so they can be online… and go pick up a big firewire drive to move the music library to. I’d like to keep that connected to my PC - I’m assuming I can make the drive sharable on the wireless network and let the collection live there, and control it from the other computers… then I suppose two airport expresses, one for the front room (connect to the existing small stereo system with xm radio), and then one for the bedroom. That’s the big quandry… got to go find some stylish powered speakers…

not much to report..

The Ultimate Wireless Music System

Wednesday, September 8th, 2004

Alright, Geeks and Geekettes… need a little help here. Finally bit the bullet and I’m in the process of ripping my entire CD collection to iTunes and boxing them up. So obviously, I’ll be picking up an airport and finally getting our house running wireless, and I’ll also be picking up an airport express or two to get access to the wonderful airtunes feature…

So, controlling iTunes via the laptop throughout the house is no problem. Sorted. The question is, what speakers do I use? I want to have speakers up in the living room, back in the bedroom, and in the dining room - where I already have an amp so I can jack into that at least in that room.

I’d rather just have powered speakers in both the living room and bedroom rather than getting an amp… so I’ve been looking online for some snazzy looking, decent powered speakers and haven’t really found anything amazing yet. In a perfect world, they’d also have volume control, and even better, via remote.. I can live without that, of course, and just control volume via the laptop and itunes, but it’s always nice to have the option…

thoughts? opinions? who’s done this already?

Not too much of a rush here - I’ve been working on the cds on and off for a week and i’m only on black rebel motorcycle club, it’s going to be awhile…

went awhile without an entry. been busy. lots of work, and then when we decide to take a break from work, we tear the house apart and do home “improvement”. looks nice, but it’s a pain.
