I’m staring into the dark of my first two soccer-less days in weeks. The round of 16 has ended, AND THERE ARE NO GAMES UNTIL FRIDAY. Thankfully I still have some saved on TIVO. Guess I’ll watch them again at 8am.
So we’re down to it. It’s quarter-finals time, only 8 teams remain. The fun begins on friday, bright and early at 8am for me.. I will most definately be drinking for this one. It’s up to the soccer gods whether i’ll be drinking from joy with a strong German showing, or in despondency as Argentina manages to ruin yet another World Cup for me. A brief break, during which I will hopefully be jumping up and down and streaking down Main Street chanting “Deutschland, Deutschland, uber alles…” or crying in a few more beers, and it’ll be Italy v the Ukraine. Italy has really sucked so far, but experience should allow them to knock of the Ukrainians fairly easily…
Saturday will bring the last two quarter final games, England v Portugal in the early slot… once again, England hasn’t impressed while Portugal’s being pretty damn plucky, but England SHOULD win. Of course, they have a long history of blowing it… and then Brazil v France, which will bring the strangest moment of all my World Cup experiences so far… I will actually be rooting for France. Only the Brazilians could make that happen.
My expectations for the semis - Germany v Italy in game one, with Germany going to the final, and England v Brazil in game two, with Brazil advancing as well.
