USA?

Thursday, June 22nd, 2006

Horrible. F minus. We don’t deserve to move on, so it’s good we’re going home. Showed some spark against Italy, and yes, we had some really bad calls against us in both the Italy and Ghana games, but still - we sucked. End of story.

So, we’re almost down to 16… with a few fairly safe assumptions
Group A: Germany and Ecuador
Group B: England and Sweden
Group C: Argentina and Netherlands
Group D: Portugal and Mexico
Group E: Italy and Ghana
Group F: Assume Brazil and Australia
Group G: Assume Switzerland and Korea
Group H: Assume Spain and Ukraine

Ghana’s the big surprise so far… I picked Italy and Czech Republic to go through in E… Korea looks like they’ll be knocking France out from advancement, which is surprising (but welcome!)… Australia looks like they’ll be taking Croatia’s place as well. Good stuff going on.

looking damn good.

Germany is just looking great… moving into cautious optimism mode… looks like we’ll be playing Sweden in the round of 16, if england can keep it up this game. USA? Here’s hoping but it’s not looking good for advancement. Gotta beat Ghana, coming off a huge win, and Italy has to bet the Czechs… we’ll see. I don’t have my chart done (i know, i know.. what’s wrong with me?… lots of work, stacked up a mile high, and music to write as well…) but if it’s possible, i’m almost seeing another Argentina v Germany final. Brazil hasn’t impressed me so far… neither has anyone else, really.

Fun fun fun!

amungus and more…

World Cup: Day One

Germany wins… not unexpected, but it was great to see them play. AWESOME offense, even without Ballack.. defense is definately going to cause us some problems as we move on and play some teams considerably better than Costa Rica… but i’m cautiously optomistic having watched them play today.

Ecuador surprised me… I haven’t really followed either them or Poland, so didn’t know too much about either team, but I was assuming Poland would win the game handily… instead they got pretty much totally shut down. Bit of a boring game… but i can’t see either of these teams causing Germany any problems in the future, so it looks like Germany will cruise past the first round with no issues. Costa Rica played well, so looks like the most interesting game for the first round in this group will be Costa Rica v Ecuador…

Guess we’re ready then.

The live set is done… run through it… well, ok, once… but it sounded pretty good. The amungus studio is packed up and ready to wing it’s way cross-country to Buffalo… and amungus (one already freshly jetlagged) will follow shortly thereafter. We’ll be milling about on Saturday, and we’ll see you from the stage at 9:45 on Sunday… looking forward to it.

cheers
